The beginning of the century was a turning point, not only in the history of the world, but also in the very special history of our family. It was a time that changed the lives that gave us ours. The year 1900 marked the birth of Uncle Gis and the courageous voyage of Raffaele and Rosa Fasano across the ocean from their small paesa of Solopaca (Province di Benevento). Grampa left his land of olive trees and grapevines: His nephew wanted him to import olive oil and wine but he sold his share of "la Massaria"(Plantation).With the money, he bought the land in RhodeIsland that was to become " The Homestead", a far cry from his native land in Solopaca, where the floors were white marble and there were tapestries on the dining room table. They came to where the streets were "lined in gold" and ironic part is that they brought their wealth with them. During the war, when work was scarce, the second son,Arcangelo , and his wife Mary came to Braintree, Massachusetts in search of work at the Quincy Shipyard. As the years passed, they raised five children and fulfiller their dream when they built Fasano's Diner in South Braintree, which eventually led them into the catering business. Arcangelo would be proud today to know that children and grandchildren are the backbone of Fasano's Catering, and "Gramma Mary" (although retired), still helps out in the kitchen.
