Wedding Traditions:

Have you ever wondered why married couples wear wedding rings, or why grooms have a bachelor's party? Most wedding traditions are deeply rooted in history, and have been practiced for hundreds of years. The following are a few popular wedding traditions, and their origins.

Wedding Rings: The circular shape of the wedding band represents never-ending love. Wedding rings are worn on the third finger of the left hand because it is believed that a vein in this finger runs directly to the heart.

Bride in White: Wearing white at a wedding became popular after Queen Victoria was married in white in 1840. White is also the symbol of purity, joy, affluence and virginity.

Bridal Bouquets: In ancient times bridal bouquets were fashioned from special herbs and flowers to ward off evil spirits. Today, flower bouquets symbolize fertility and never-ending romance.

Bachelor Parties: Ancient Spartans were reportedly the first to hold stag parties. Tradition dictated that grooms would feast with their friends the evening before their wedding to goodbye to their carefree days as a bachelor.
